Registry Errors
Common Registry Errors and their causes
There are quite a number of registry errors that are considered common in the current configurations of personal computers. There are three very common errors that most commercially available registry editing software can fix easily. They include Slow Registry Access, Obsolete Entries and Invalid File Extensions. I will address each one of these in the paragraphs below.
1. Computer Running Too Slow:
The first registry problem of Slow Registry Access is the cause of several Windows problems including sluggish performance and slow start up and your computer freezes several times daily. These symptoms usually mean that your registry has way too many entries and is in need of editing.
2. Invalid Registry Values
A second set of registry problems are Obsolete Entries. This can occur when you uninstall unwanted or unneeded programs. Many times when you uninstall programs invalid registry keys are left behind. As you add and delete more programs from your system the registry becomes clogged with invalid registry keys. This will also bloat your registry to the point that programs slow down when loading and are not functioning properly.
3. Invalid File Extensions
The third most common type of registry problem is Invalid File Extensions. You will get a Windows error message saying something along the lines of “Windows cannot find the file associated with this program”. There is something called a ProgID that Windows uses to associate the files the computer is looking for and handles the files of that type. If the file extension is invalid, ProgID can not find the file and generates the error message. You will need a good registry editing program to find those invalid file types and fix those registry errors.
4. .dll File Errors
Other errors include missing files with a .dll extension. .dll files are library files that can be deleted accidentally if you do not recognize the beginning part of the file. When trying to fix your own registry errors you should use a program that analyzes your system first and really identifies what needs repaired. If you delete entries without full knowledge of what might happen you can cause problems with hardware on your system and end up needing to either spend a great deal of money on a computer repair person or buying a new system entirely.
You can purchase any number of software programs that will analyze your registry and aid you in the process of fixing your registry problems. You can review any of the more common packages online and even compare in many cases. See the registry cleaner review section where you can find unbiased reviews on many registry editing software packages that will help you with your choice. Most of these programs can be bought for less than fifty dollars ($50) and have free upgrades for a year.
If your computer is not currently severely affected by registry errors and you just want to improve its performance you can check out Regcure or RegistryEasy free scanners. They will scan your system and tell you how many errors you have and will fix a portion of them. To fix all of the errors found; however, you will need to upgrade to the full version for a price that can vary depending upon the windows registry cleaner you chose.
